We have developed an Uber surge tracking App for iOS and we would like to offer members here the chance to try it out for one month.

    The App:
Surge allows a driver to check their city for surges without being logged in to the Uber Partner App. This is accomplished by querying for the surge value at specific geo locations. A driver is then able to only go online when a surge is happening, increasing their profit.

Surge has support for background monitoring of surges, generating notifications when a surge starts, increases/decreases, and ends. It supports setting a surge threshold of when to notify, allowing you to only get notifications when there is a certain value surge happening.

There are graphs of the surge values over time, allowing you to see surge trends in your area. You can then tell if there is a short surge happening or a bigger one that is worth driving.

    How To Use the App:
When you first launch the app, you will see one location added by default. This is your current location. Surge will always monitor the surge at your current position. You will then need to add other locations to monitor. The best way to do this is to pull up the Uber Partner App and look at the "surge zones" there. Then in Surge add a location inside each of the "surge zones". This is how you can use Surge to monitor the Uber "surge zones".

    Cost:
Surge is free to download and uses a subscription model for premium features. The main premium features are monitoring more than one fixed location and the background monitoring. The subscription price is currently $4.99 a month, with reduced rates for longer subscriptions.

    Free Subscription:
We are offering the first 100 users a free one month subscription. After you have downloaded Surge and signed in, go to Settings->Go Premium->Upgrade Now->Promotions. Here you can enter the below promo code, giving you a free one month subscription. This promotion will end on December 21st. If it is successful, we may be offering more promo codes.

    Promo Code: UBERFORUMVUBQ2

If you are referring to the update to the driver app that adds the "hexagon system", you can now see less information about the surges. With the "hexagon system", you can't see the surge multipliers and you don't even know if a surge is actually happening, as a hexagon just represents an area of high demand, not necessarily an area that is surging.

When changes like these, Uber is keeping drivers in the dark more than before and you need something like our app if you only want to drive surge fares.

Well I had the new app for well over a month, and the surge zones were regular blocks and you saw exactly what the surges were without logging in. I just got the hexagons YESTERDAY.

With the new hexagons, no you dont know exactly what the surge is. But also, in a 9 block city street in a busy city, the old map would have that area all one surge. The hexagon map now can have 3 different surge amount(1 every 3 blocks) in that same 9 blocks. Can your app show the exact amount of surge in each 3 block of that 9block surge area????

The app works by querying the surge value for an exact coordinate. So it can basically tell you the surge value for any possible location that has Uber service.

With the hexagon map, they split the old "surge zones" up in to smaller areas. The app worked previously by just checking one coordinate in the "surge zone" and you knew the surge value for the whole area. With the new system, you now have smaller areas where the surge differs, meaning you would have to query more locations. We would like to add a heat map to the app based on surge data collected from other users. This could provide a better idea of the surges within the new hexagon system.
